Daggett County, Utah
Today, only nine hundred twenty-one people live in all
of Daggett County . The county seat of Daggett County is Manila . It is almost two hundred miles away from Salt Lake City . Three hundred forty people live in the city of Manila .
Dutch John is the only other community in Daggett County besides Manila . Its population is about two hundred fifty people.
The city was built along with the Flaming Gorge Dam. Dutch John used to be
owned by the government, but in October 1998, it was no longer owned by the
government.
Linwood was a community in Daggett County , but it was flooded when the Flaming George Dam was completed. Most of
the people living there moved to Manila when that happened.
The Flaming George Dam is the biggest recreational
area in Daggett County . It produces so much energy that it could fill a city with lights that
has one hundred eighty thousand people.
The land in Daggett County is covered in forests and mountains and has a high elevation. The county’s
area is seven hundred twenty –three square miles. Six-hundred ninety-eight
square miles is land, and twenty-five square miles is water.
The agriculture in Daggett County includes livestock, hay, and alfalfa. The businesses that they have
there are tourism, livestock, hunting, lumbering, and electric power. The
natural resources of Daggett County are water and lumber. They are used for lumbering,
drinking water, and electricity.
There are some interesting facts about Daggett County . There are no railroads in Daggett County . There are five motels, five restaurants, three gas stations, and one
small general store in the whole county. The most interesting fact is that it’s
the newest and least populated county in Utah . It was once part of Uintah County , but it broke off in 1918.
Moose, elk, and deer live in the woods of Daggett County . Antelope and bighorn sheep live in the area also. There are many fun
recreational things to do in Daggett County . You can go biking, fishing, boating, camping, and hiking there.
There is an interesting story that happened in Daggett County . There was once a rumor that
there were diamonds in the mountains around Daggett County . Many people went there to find the diamonds. People came all the way
from Europe to find them! The mountains were explored over and
over again, but they soon found that the rumor wasn’t true. There actually
weren’t any diamonds!
Although Daggett County is very small, it has many wonders. It has awesome mountains and cool
lakes. Daggett County is a very beautiful and dramatic county.
